Beyond Food Drives
State Street Forum on Faith and Public Life
Wednesday, May 19th
12 noon to 1:00 pm

All are invited to join us on Zoom for a thought-provoking conversation about the future of emergency food aid in the Capital District and beyond. This event, co-sponsored by Westminster and the New York State Council of Churches, is the “soft launch” of what will become a monthly forum on faith and public life. Please help us spread the word!

We have seen a sharp increase in “drive-thru” food pantries and emergency food collections during the past year. This way of receiving food has been helpful for people who are not comfortable going to supermarkets and for those who have become unemployed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, people are getting vaccinated and COVID rates are declining in most areas. However, there is little public discussion to promote long-term food security in the US. Should our expanded level of emergency food aid become a permanent part of our social support system? Or are there policies and systems that would allow food drives to go out of business?
