With their messages of “Good Jobs Now!” & “Wall Street Bail Out Main Street!” Hunger Action Network members rally 400 strong on the steps of the Legislative Office Building in Albany on March 9, then went on to march around the Capitol. Several weeks later, the Faith and Hunger Network followed this action with a prayer vigil of clergy and faith leaders outside the governor’s office.
A New Way to Live out Your Faith
Perhaps you have experienced in your congregation what so many do: compassion fatigue, a sense there is little we can do, the feeling we can hardly make a dent in a problem so vast.
The FAITH & HUNGER NETWORK (FHN) is coming together to move us beyond that feeling into a more concerted, unified, and prophetic action. Each year, we help congregations around the state of New York in 3 essential ways:
- Strength in numbers. Different faith traditions and denominations are learning to work together in new ways, so we all gain new power to make change. FHN is leading the way to a more unified voice against hunger and poverty in NYS.
- Clear information & strategy. Influencing legislatures and executives requires a clear campaign, good information, and experienced advice. FHN gives people the guidance and assistance they need to influence budgets and priorities.
- Follow-through in the Capitol. Albany and DC are arenas of fast-moving and complex action. Citizen input has greater impact with the help of full-time advocates who can amplify and monitor the changes being sought. FHN combines staff in both places with decades of experience in the legislative and policy arenas.
