Celebrate National CACFP Week March 10-16, 2024

03/12/2024
Itโ€™s National CACFP Week! Join Hunger Solutions New York in celebrating the childcare providers, afterschool programs, and schools that serve healthy meals and snacks to children in their care through the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

Across New York, hundreds of thousands of children access nutritious meals through CACFP. Children in programs that serve meals through CACFP develop lifelong healthy eating habits and have improved nutrition security.

Reimbursement through CACFP can help offset the costs of food expenses for both child care providers and families. CACFP can help make childcare more affordable for families while also improving the quality of care. Thousands of childcare providers and afterschool programs already participate in CACFP, but many more are eligible but not enrolled.

Take action to help expand awareness of this important program:

Hello (new) friends,

I hope at this moment you are sitting in your favorite spot, warm and cozy while you dream of Spring and warmer days. In the coming weeks, as Spring renewal becomes more evident, may you find yourself planning your garden or eager to taste the produce from for favorite local farm.

My name is Erin Cuseo and I am thrilled to be the new GardenShareโ€™s new Program Coordinator. Over the last 15 years I have managed small diversified farming operations in Washington State, Colorado, and Missouri. My focus has been on vegetables, but for the last 7 years I have co-operated a Water Buffalo meat and dairy operation. Over the years I have been actively involved in Farmers Markets, both as a vendor and as a board member. I am excited to finally set down roots in St. Lawrence County.

For me, the best part about being a farmer has always been the farmers market. The connection with the consumer, whether through education or excitement, has always been the highlight of farming. During my tenure as a farmer, I partnered directly with multiple nonprofits with the goal of addressing food insecurity and increasing food access at farmers markets.

As someone who has spent most of her adult life in agriculture, I am passionate about shopping locally and providing equitable [โ€ฆ]

Press Release: Statewide Coalition of Food Pantries Recognized as Part of the White House Challenge to End Hunger and Build Healthy Communities

03/01/2024

Albany, N.Y. โ€“ This week, the White House announced the commitments made by groups across the U.S. as part of the White House Challenge to End Hunger and Build Healthy Communities. The Alliance for a Hunger Free New York, a coalition of frontline community food providers (like food pantries and food rescue organizations), was one of the organizations recognized for their commitment to end hunger by expanding access to food resources and amplifying the voices of those experiencing food insecurity in New York State.

โ€œWith one in four adults acknowledging they have experienced food insecurity in New York, this past year, we have the moral imperative to make sure those struggling have information and access to food resources to help them make it through these challenging timesโ€, said Natasha Pernicka, executive director of The Alliance for a Hunger Free New York. โ€œMillions of New Yorkers are seeing the effects of food inflation at grocery stores, which has increased 25% since 2019, and are turning to food pantries in record numbers. Making sure that the voices of people experiencing the distress of not having enough food are included in policy and programs is integral to ending hunger.โ€

โ€œOur challenges go beyond mere statisticsโ€”they are deeply personal to me. As a resident of the Finger Lakes region for my entire life, Iโ€™ve seen firsthand the impact of growing up in an environment where [โ€ฆ]
