Rob Schwartz, a long time Hunger Action Network board member, died after a very brief illness early last year. He leaves behind a legacy to be very proud of. Rob was an activist, a man of faith, devoted father and dancer. Much of his life was dedicated to caring for others and fighting the good fight for social justice.
Rob joined Hunger Action Network in 1998 and worked tirelessly to help grow the organization’s membership base throughout his tenure. His dedication to the organization was beyond compare. He also introduced us to the issue of wage theft and the Securing Wages Earned Against Theft (SWEAT) bill, one of his many passions.
To Honor Rob’s life work and his many and vast contributions towards a more just society, Hunger Action Network has established the ROB SCHWARTZ MEMORIAL MAKING A DIFFERENCE AWARD –the first award was given to Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal, sponsor of the SWEAT bill. The assemblywoman’s dogged support on this issue, along with the determination of advocates like Rob, has seen the bill passed by the NY Assembly in the 2016 session. The bill will be reintroduced in the 2017 session and we will be working in Rob’s name to ensure the bill’s passage.
